We take a strategic approach to the research that we commission. This means that we don’t just fund projects on an ad-hoc basis. Our strategic framework has been developed with the leading professionals in the bowel disease sector – the Association of Coloproctology of Great Britain and Ireland.
All the projects that we fund have been rigorously reviewed and approved through the ACPGBI Research and Audit Committee which works in line with the remit set out by the Association of Medical Research Charities.
BDRF is a non-commercial partners of the NIHR so all of our funded work is part of the NIHR portfolio of research.
Many of our projects are seed funded projects which then go on to large scale clinical trials.
Without our work many of these important trials in the field of colorectal research would not have been possible.
