In 2009, Christopher Johnson, was a young, fit and healthy 33 year old. After returning from a family holiday in Florida, he was admitted into hospital for severe abdominal pain. What transpired was an unusual case of diverticular disease localised to a short portion of his bowel. After a further recurrence of infection the best way forward was for a resection. This was done laparoscopically. Unfortunately, he had a leak and suffered low level peritonitis which resulted in 2 years of colostomy (stoma) surgery with reversal and immense pain.
“After a very close shave with death I decided I was not going to be beaten and that I would do something to ensure other people and their families do not go through the same upset and distress.”
